healthy vision monthHere are six quick and simple steps to take better care of your eyes this month during Healthy Vision Month:

  1. Schedule an eye exam with your optometrist. Many eye diseases don’t have symptoms early on, so it’s important that you keep up with your annual appointments.
  2. Get a new pair of glasses or contacts, if needed. It’s important to have the right prescription for your eyes, which your eye doctor can help you determine at your yearly checkup.
  3. Eat healthy foods that are good for your eyes, such as leafy green vegetables and fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
  4. Avoid smoking and excessive drinking. Smoking raises the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration, both of which can cause visual impairment.
  5. Protect your eyes from the sun by wearing sunglasses with UV protection when outdoors.
  6. Make sure your computer screen is properly adjusted to avoid eye strain.

If you have concerns about your eyesight, it’s probably time to schedule an exam or consultation with your eye care provider.
